What Qualifications Do I Need To Work In A Nursery?
If you aspire to be a Nursery Assistant, a childcare qualification is not essential as you will be working under the supervision of a qualified Nursery Nurse. What Employers will look for is a previous experience of supporting Early Years children with a proven track record of success. Nursery Assistants will also be expected to have strong Literacy and Numeracy skills and employers will sometimes look for a GCSE C grade or equivalent in Maths and English.
If you wish to work as a Nursery Nurse, you will need a full and relevant childcare or education qualification such as;
- CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
- BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development
- NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
For further information on what Early Years courses are deemed suitable for you to qualify as a Nursery Nurse, please head to the Early Years Qualifications List which outlines what qualifications are needed at each level of childcare.
Early Years Practitioner
To work as an Early Years practitioner candidates can obtain a Level 3 qualification such as the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) course or they can undertake a FdA or BA (Honours) degree, for example, Early Childhood Studies, Early Years Practice and Early Years Education.
Early Years Teacher
To find employment as an Early Years teacher, you will need to have Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) by completing an Early Years initial teacher training (EYITT) course. Routes on how to achieve this are available from the National Careers Service. In addition to this, teachers must pass the professional skills tests in numeracy and literacy.
We work with a number of Nursery establishments including Montessori's. If you are looking for work opportunities as a Montessori Teacher you will need to have completed a Montessori diploma that includes a placement. Some organisations may require higher education certificates such as A Levels.
